Monarch ? -
Danaus plexippus
Konawa, Seminole County, Oklahoma, USA
April 10, 2009
Size: 25mm (1") body
Is this a Monarch or a Viceroy?
Sorry I couldn't get a spread-wing shot but it would have caused injury to it if I had tried to force it so I settled for these shots.
Please help with ID.

You need The Butterfly Whisperer
or this guide page, which works with wings open or closed:

....
Appears to be a Monarch based on that image. Would you agree?

Yes, it is.
Sorry, I should have said that. We're supposed to have Viceroys in SoCal, but I haven't seen any. I'm so indoctrinated to Monarchs that when I did shoot a Viceroy back east, I misidentified it.
