Predacious Diving Beetle - Hydroporus striola

Predacious Diving Beetle - Hydroporus striola
The Arboretum, Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada
April 9, 2009
Size: 3.0 mm
Scooped from seasonal swamp. Reminds me of a member of the Hydroporinae.

Not entirely sure,
but moved to species page for now. I might have to key it out myself eventually, since I'm taking an aquatic insects course during my next school term.

Hydroporus
May be the same or a similar species to Tom's recently collected specimen here

Comparable specimen...
... but incomparable image. I can't get much detail for such a small thing. But, if color and habitus are pretty much identical (as it appears to me through my hand lens), I guess H. striola is indeed the correct diagnosis?

Based on colour and habitus descriptions
in the keys by Larson, I'm tempted to place this in H. striola. But with a genus this large (50+ Nearctic species with many look pretty much similar to each other) it may be risky to do so- Hydroporus is one of the more notoriously difficult Dytiscid genera. I'm about 80% in favor of moving this to the species page but I will leave it up to you to make the final decision (pls. forgive my indecisiveness!).
