(1)Identification
Scutellum with three pairs of bristles, the lateral pair long and divergent and the apical pair crossed. Only two, widely spaced postsutural intraalar bristles (compared to the usual three). Often with two strongly contrasting black stripes on the thorax. Female usually with claws of fore leg reduced and apical tarsomeres modified.
Range
in our area, more diverse in w./sw. US, with a few transcontinental spp.

Paradidyma has a strong row of parafacial bristles. Vanderwulpia does not.
