WOW,
I want to find one! Thanks, Martin, for following up on this.
The checklist in your paper (Reemer, Hauser, & Speight, 2005) this is still listed as M. aurinota (Hine, 1903) = M. cornellia Shannon, 1923.
Brian Brown also has it as M. aurinota at phorid.net. I assume that cornellia is the current name?

And thanks again for your good eyes, Ron.

It is a bit of a problem honestly... Chris Thompson distinguished (sometimes) cornellia and aurinota as two species and I have not seen enough material to made up my own opinion, and the character is hard to see in all the pics, so I just placed it there, which seems the closest name so far.. There seem to be several undescribed species in this genus and there might be some change in the names if somebody has the time to really look at the genitalia and more material. Unfortunately these flies are often relatively rare...So take this ID with a grain of salt! Cheers
Martin

Thanks, Martin,
for the quick reply!
I'll keep my eyes open for this.

Good hunting, Hartmut!

That is a rare species, with the scale like hairs on the body... I will check on the species next week when I am back in the US...

Thank you very much, Martin.
I'll eagerly await your comments.

Wow! A Myolepta I believe! That is an awesome syrphid Ron. Martin Hauser, or another syrphid expert, needs to see this... great find.

Wonderful! I though this was special.
Thanks, Eric.

You must have ventured beyond
the parking lot for this & other recent posts, Ron. Congratulations!

Thanks, Hartmut.
This one wasn't far inside the gate. Saw the physical therapist today and am cleared for two miles, done in small increments, so I should be shooting farther afield.
