Giant Striated Ground Beetle (Pterostichus lama)? - Pterostichus lama

Giant Striated Ground Beetle (Pterostichus lama)? - Pterostichus lama
near Salem, Polk County, Oregon, USA
April 14, 2009
Size: 2.5cm
Thorax width: 0.8cm. Found in a coniferous forest (douglas firs mainly) with mixed broadleaf trees (maples).

I would agree.
These are real "monsters" for that part of the world. Fast, too!

Yeah,
they're fast little buggers and have pretty good chompers! I had only one plastic container with me at the time so I put a firefly and another carabid beetle (a bit smaller) in the same container.... and well the other two weren't moving much after I got home.
