This never happens.... - Centris cockerelli

This never happens.... - Centris cockerelli
Tucson, Santa Cruz River Park, Pima County, Arizona, USA
April 16, 2009
...a Centris that has landed and is sitting still! LOL! These are among the most frenetic bees I know of. This one just needed a rest, apparently. Santa Cruz River Park is a linear park frequented by runners, walkers, and hobos. It is basically a channelized "wash" (arroyo) with the din of Interstate 10 on one side and an office park and residential neighborhood on the other. Still, I am surprised by the insect and bird diversity there. Imaged this in early afternoon with a Canon SX10 IS in "auto" mode with "macro" function, cropping the resulting image.
