Size: about 12mm
This was a small fly on a wood strawberry leaf. I didn't notice the bubbles until I downloaded the photos. What is it doing?

Not making bubbles:-)
This is some kind of flower fly (Syrphidae). I'd say it is feeding on the bubbles, not making them. Could be residue from a spittlebug. Insects take advantage of all forms of available moisture.
