Black beetle, white spots -
Acmaeodera ornatoides
Bell County, Texas, USA
April 14, 2009
A number of these beetles were feeding on yellow Primrose plants, commonly called "Fluttermill", in an open meadow near Belton Lake shore.

Looks a lot like Acmaeodera t
Looks a lot like
Acmaeodera tubulus
, but there are many species in that genus and I'm not sure which ones are in TX.

Buprestid
This is a species of Acmaeodera, which is a type of buprestid beetle. There are over 160 species in the US, so I can't tell you much more than that.

compare image from NC
This looks similar to
Acmaeodera ornata
, except it lacks the elongated humeral mark. In some ways resembles
Acmaeodera ornatoides
, but I do not know if that ranges that far east.
Any ideas appreciated.

I know I sound like a broken
I know I sound like a broken record since I got this one wrong so long ago but trust me yours is Acmaeodera tubulus, ornatoides does not occur out east. The pronotum on your picture is all wrong for ornatoides or ornata.
