There are five spiders of about this size outside of our picture window, and about a dozen or so more much smaller ones. The body is approximateley the size of a nickle maybe larger. i have a little one, so is there anthing to worry about? they are obviously successfully reproducing

Orb Weaver.
This is an orb weaver of some sort, probably in the genus Araneus. They are of no threat to you at all. In fact, they are probably trapping and killing lots of garden pest insects. Just enjoy the beauty of their webs. They will be gone with the first frost, if not sooner.
