Explanation of Names
Specific epithet from Latin
chalybeius meaning "iron, steel, chalybeate," for the "light steel-blue" features of the moth.

Eastern half of the United States and southeastern Canada.

Larvae feed on the leaves of sugar maple, red maple, mountain maple, yellow birch, beech and eastern hophornbeam.

Larva pupates in a folded leaf shelter. Early instars may winter in hibernacula on twigs.
