Hyles Lineata
Hyles Lineata, the White-lined Sphinx, in the guide here. One of our more common moths here in southern california at this time of year, but it's still one of my favorites. Very nice photo of it drinking from the flower, and welcome to BugGuide!

Caterpillar
I recognized the pictures of the White-Lined Sphinx caterpillar in your guide. I have seen them in my garden last year.

Thanks!
I was pleasantly surprised to find such a beautiful work of art in my garden. I hope to find many more.
