This was on a ceanothus flower.

I think this is
Eronyxa angustus (Casey, 1916). Though I haven't yet seen Casey's original description (as Ostomodes), we can exclude pallida, as well as expansa (Van Dyke, 1916) with its much more expanded, flattened rim of elytra as well as pronotum, aside from other differences. This leaves the third of the spp. known in CA, E. angustata with its more narrow elytral rim, plus other obvious differences.
What do you think?

hmmmmm
How about if I look these up in the Essig collection? I think you're probably right but would be nice to see some specimens. I'm still staring at all the photos trying to see the differences...

I just added another Eronyxa here that I found this month in Washington. I see you added one from southern CA.

That would be great, Joyce -
There may also be specimens at LAMNH but I don't have time to go there.
Jim Hogue has a couple of specimens identified as pilosula which is a synonym of E. pallida. However, that doesn't help with the present photos.
This one shows antennal base, as well as expanded terminal segments darker than middle of flagellum, whereas your beetle from Mt. Baker has pretty much unicolorous antennae.

i'm sure it is

thanks v
Do you think this one is the same genus, or something different?
