Syrphus opinator Osten Sacken 1877
Size
7-12 mm
Identification
S. opinator is the common species in central California and has the abdominal fasciae restricted to the sides and isolated from the margins. S. torvus has hairy eyes (more in the male than in the female), is more northern and early spring only. --Chris Thompson
