Fly, Syrphid sp - Platycheirus - male

Fly, Syrphid sp - Platycheirus - Male
Portola Valley, Windy Hill Preserve, San Mateo County, California, USA
January 30, 2009
Size: ~11-13 mm
Possible to ID this syrphid? (Seen here feeding on and probably pollinating Dentaria californica, Milk Maids.) Presume the gender call is based on the touching eyes.

I'm with you Ron
On this one! :-))
Greetings

Well, it's a boy.
I also think it's a Platycheirus, from the posture, abdomen shape, delicate legs and dark color. Hopefully, you'll get confirmation and/or an expert ID.
