tawny cockroach - Ectobius lapponicus

tawny cockroach - Ectobius lapponicus
Milan, Coos County, New Hampshire, USA
August 1, 2005

Ectobius lapponicus
It is a bit darker than normal, but looks to be one of the introduced (from Europe) forest cockroaches, Ectobius lapponicus. Now widespread in the Northeast.

I agree.
I agree with the ID. I wonder if Don would kindly expand his biographical information to indicate how he came by his expertise, and whether he has a specialty? Thank you.

Ectobius/cockroach expertise
It is wonderful to be the cockroach expert for New Hampshire, covering all 3 of the outdoor species. No desire to expand my experience though.

Very common
These cockroaches are very common in a number of habitats here in the northeast. I see them mostly in grasses, but also around the house, mostly outside.
