Not diving beetle.
This is a water scavenger beetle, family Hydrophilidae, maybe genus Tropisternus. Your ventral shot clearly shows the "keel" spine running down the middle of the underside, a hallmark of hydrophilids. The long "antennae" are actually one set of palps. The antennae are very short, clubbed, and used to obtain air at the water's surface. Awesome shots!

Thanks, Eric. (I should have checked the Guide for Hydrophilidae. When will I ever learn....) Looking at the Guide, this looks a lot like T. collaris. -- Cat
