I never saw them that long in any Coccinellid!

characteristic of Sticholotidinae in N. Am.
Maxillary palpi with the apical segment elongated oval or conical are diagnostic for this subfamily in N. America. Gordon mentions that in some tribes not occurring north of Mexico, the feature is not as distinctive, but in the Nearctic it's all you need to determine this subfamily.
