Bark-gnawing Beetle - Airora cylindrica
Chantilly, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
April 26, 2009
Size: ~ 8 mm
Found under the bark of a rotting tree. My best guess is Airora cylindrica. It's the fifth Trogossitids I have met here. I didn't expect to meet so many species here.

sure --
you're such a good collector, Kim! keep looking for odd stuff...

Thanks, v !
I have been searching all available dead trees nearby... :-)

We found four sp. on the bark
of one dying Ponderosa last year, too.

Wow, I should have, too... :-)
I found the Trogossitids mostly on different trees. Two found on the same live tree, and the remainings on dead or rotting trees.
