...A featherlegged orbweaver? - Cyclosa walckenaeri

...A featherlegged orbweaver? - Cyclosa walckenaeri
Miami, Dade County, Florida, USA
April 12, 2009
I'm not really sure. This spider strings its eggsacs and prey in a line like a Featherlegged Orbweaver does, but it doesn't look the same.

Interestingly, one of these vibrated its web furiously like a Garden Orbweaver when I came a little too close.

Lynette, what do you think of Cyclosa walckenaeri
Levi, 1977, page 65.

From the range maps this Florida specimen must be walckenaeri. If they had been in overlapping regions the guide says that walckenaeri need to be distinguished from berlandi by epigyne. Thankfully, it appears the two may only overlap in southern Texas.
