Tube-tailed Thrips - Neurothrips

Tube-tailed Thrips - Neurothrips
Baiting Hollow, Suffolk County, New York, USA
April 27, 2009
Size: 1-2 mm.
This strange prehistoric looking bug was running fast, crazily non stop (similar to how a silverfish runs) on a freshly cut Red Oak log at 7:30 PM.
I'm hoping someone can ID this even though the image is not good. It is quite small and was barely visible and getting dark.
It looks like there is a disposable hyperdermic needle stuck onto the rear.
