Nerdus maximus - male

Nerdus maximus - Male
Uptown, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, USA
April 8, 2009
Size: 178cm
I want to check both "adult" and "immature" but I think it would break the database. In this image you may notice that the right hand is red and swollen, from a self-inflicted buckmoth sting. I am looking at the caterpillar's barbs under the microscope, and hope to post some good images of them as soon as I get around to it.

Mark -- I like your Ortholux microscope; excellent!

Thanks
It's one of my most prized possessions, along with my Wild M5 stereo microscope.

You are a glutton for punishment ;0)
I can't say that I'm going to do any self-inflicted stings. That really takes a certain level of devotion. Nice to meet ya, though, swollen hand and all.

Devotion
Well, I won't dispute that I am devoted (nerdy, obsessed) enough to deliberately sting myself just to see what happens, because it is absolutely true. I only have two mitigating statements in my defense:

1) I would happily sting other people if they'd let me
2) In this case, my devotion was to my dog, who was suffering from some unknown cause.
