Oak Bullet Gall cross-section, showing pupa - Disholcaspis quercusglobulus

Oak Bullet Gall cross-section, showing pupa - Disholcaspis quercusglobulus
Durham, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
Every year the big White Oak (Quercus alba) tree in our front yard sheds branches bearing little round galls. Apparently these are bullet galls. I forget why, probably just sheer curiosity, we cut one open last summer and found the pupa inside it. Then we tried to repair it with scotch tape and kept it inside for a couple of weeks.

Moved from Disholcaspis.
I'm showing Dr. Zhiwei Liu our images of reared cynipids to see if there are any inquilines mixed in. For this one he says: "Based on gall and the wasp, I can tentatively agree that it is a Disholcaspis."
