Characters given by Gordon (1985) for separating subspecies of H. stigma (Oliv.) do not hold constant. Subspecies are not recognized in the TAMU collection. EGR, 2010.

Gordon's figures - Similar to H. signata except average size smaller; discal spot on elytron large, apical spot lacking. (1)

Remarks
Type locality: "Colorado River above Columbus, Austin, Texas." (1)
Note, the type series of this sp. was collected by Schwarz who collected in and around Austin County, Texas. Schwarz is not known to have ever visited the City of Austin, Travis County, Texas.
