Oak Beauty - Phaeoura quernaria - male

Oak Beauty - Phaeoura quernaria - Male
Pickens County, Georgia, USA
April 29, 2009
Size: wingspan as shown 49 mm.
Found at light. My first thought was a Zale of some kind, but after checking Covell and MPG, I realized that this was prob. an Oak Beauty.
This one took me quite a while to ID, mainly due to the variability of the white markings on the forewing.
I'm guessing this is a male, based on the very feathery antennae.
Nacophora quernaria in Covell.

Oak Beauty
Definitely an oak beauty... the males are incredibly variable; some are entirely black, others are mostly whitish. The females are much larger and have thread-like antennae. Great moth!

Sounds Good!
I really appreciate your comments Paul.
