In my NH home. Many of them - Dolomedes scriptus
Merrimack County, New Hampshire, USA
April 29, 2009
This is one of two types that have started showing up in my house. I have seen about 6 of them since yesterday. One was almost the size of my open palm

Dolomedes scriptus
The markings on the cephalothorax and abdomen suggest Dolomedes scriptus. Is your house within close proximity of a river or lake? If so, that's where they are coming from. I'm not sure why they would want to get inside your house though. But as Jebus said, they're entirely harmless. Here's a link to the D. scriptus Guide page: http://bugguide.net/node/view/38828/bgimage

i use glue traps
i use glue traps from Tomcat. (great for in the house)

Dolomedes
One of the fishing spiders from genus Dolomedes.

Large, but harmless predators.
