Possible sawfly (Cimbicid?) - Abia aenea

Possible sawfly (Cimbicid?) - Abia aenea
Ottawa, Ottawa-Carleton, Ontario, Canada
April 29, 2009
Size: about an inch long
This sawfly (?) was on a small honeysuckle shrub in an open wooded area near a cattail marsh. I was struck by the clubbed antennae, the bronzed abdomen and the brown wings.

Det. S.K. Monckton here, though A. lonicerae records in the US should actually refer to A. aenea following a re-evaluation.(1)

Yes.
Your family ID is correct:-) This is in the genus Zaraea, and at least one species feeds on honeysuckle as a larva.

Cimbicid sawfly
Thanks very much Eric! It is a beautiful insect and I'm glad to be able to place it to Genus. I appreciate your help a lot.
