Size: 1 inch?
Found this on my gardenia bush in December. Not sure if it is helpful or harmful to the gardenia, but there were certainly plenty of aphids and ants on the gardenia, too.

Leaf-footed Plant Bug
I really don't know if they will harm your gardenia or not. I've never seen any on my Gardenias, maybe it's just passing through?
