ID for Copestylum in California? - Copestylum avidum - Male
Webb Canyon, ~2000 ft. altitude, Los Angeles County, California, USA
April 23, 2009
I am pretty certain that this is a Copestylum species, but it is the first one I've seen in person so I hope I'm not wrong. Of the species currently in the guide from California, I think it looks like a pretty good match for C. avidum. Any assistance in confirming my guesses would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Photographed on mustard flowers. Mixed oak & chaparral habitat.

Decided I wasn't really sure enough to place this under species yet... gonna' leave it at genus for now.

Copestylum avidum looks right to me.
Definitely Copestylum.

Thanks for the confirmation, Ron...
Yay, my first Copestylum! I will leave this image here awhile and see if Hartmut (or any one else) wants to offer an opinion, but unless there's another likely candidate that I'm unaware of, I think C. avidum must be right too.
