twig gall on northern pin oak - Callirhytis quercuspunctata

twig gall on northern pin oak - Callirhytis quercuspunctata
Alpha, Fayette County, Iowa, USA
April 28, 2009
Size: ~3 cm diameter
Twig gall on branching twig of northern pin oak (Quercus ellipsoidalis) in prairie remnant. Did not cut open, so I have no photo of interior.

Moved
Moved from Unidentified Galls. Looks good... another species causes similar galls that are finely covered with irregular bumps.

Gouty Oak Gall?
Armed with Charley's new book (1), I have started reviewing my old submissions. This one looks similar to the Gouty Oak Gall (Callirhytis quercuspunctata) (on page 402), but I'll wait for confirmation.

Moving to Galls for now -
hopefully Joyce or Charley will see this image.
