Weevil leaves a powder? - Tychius lineellus

Weevil leaves a powder? - Tychius lineellus
Nix Nature Center, Laguna Beach, Orange County, California, USA
April 30, 2009
Size: guess ~5mm
Humm, looks like a tiny dust bunny, rolling down one of the concrete steps. Very white, almost insubstantial, as shown here. Splat! It falls to the top of the next step and then looks much darker, as seen in the subsequent photos.

Thanks =v=
Any thoughts on the "powder"? (No big deal; just curious.)

My attempts at research...
...didn't turn up much so far, but I found this page which discusses a species of weevil in which "the young adults are covered with a yellow waxy coating.... [which] gradually wears away so that older weevils become increasingly black." A similar phenomenon, perhaps?

I don't think it aged that fast!
Thanks for checking things out, though. My guess is that the weevil fell into something fine and powdery, but have no idea what. It almost seemed that it was bothered by the powder, making me suspect insecticide, but I don't believe they use any at Nix.
