Red-humped Caterpillar? - Oedemasia concinna

Red-humped Caterpillar? - Oedemasia concinna
Lancaster, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
August 5, 2005
They look just like Schizura concinna, except these have orange stripes instead of green stripes. Is it a different species, or just a color variation?

looks good
There seems to be a base color variation from green to yellow to orange in the images we find on the web. These certainly look like the images on Northern Prairie. Both eastern and western caterpillar pages have similar images. Wait! UPS is at the door. Our new caterpillar book may be here. We'll get right back to you!

Caterpillar book
I hear good things about the new book that just came out. I'll have to pick one up soon. Thanks for the ID on this one, with color variation being normal.

Just checked
Just checked it out in our new book and it says this pattern "immediately distinguishes it from all others in the east"!
