I think it's Melacoryphus rubicollis
No doubt you saw Peter's, which awaited an ID for a couple years:

i have little doubt you're correct, guys
but gonna have it expert-checked anyway: there are taxonomic issues within this group

I will await the verdict...
...and thanks for being thorough, =v=. Always nice to have an ID truly confirmed instead of just speculating.

[EDIT: Hmmm... I just noticed that you moved my images to the species page, so maybe you already got the confirmation...]

from Merrill Sweet:
"M. rubicollis Uhler is ok"

Food?
One of the reports (from Anaheim) of Scandius turned out to be this species, but it (aduilts and nymphs) appeared to be also feeding on Malva parviflora. Are there any previous records of what it likes to eat?

Thanks =v=!
And please do express my gratitude to Merrill Sweet for taking the time to review my images.
