shield back
This is a shield-back katydid; looks like an immature male. I think this one is a species of Pediodectes, based on the shape of the pronotum and the location. That genus is very diverse in Texas. If you see any later in the year, you would need a good shot of the rear abdominal appendages of a male to try to get a species name.
