Digger Bee at work - Centris pallida

Digger Bee at work - Centris pallida
Picture Rocks, NW of Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, USA
May 2, 2009
After hovering like a Bee Fly, this bee goes to work: excavating, and pushing the sand back with those big hind-legs (reminds me of my wolf-dog). Then she backs away from the hole and spreads the sand over at least three inches away from the opening.
