Something in Carabidae?

Bombadier Beetle, Brachinus ?
That might be a pretty cool find. Looks similar to me anyway. Curious, did it spray you, or aim it's rear at you in defense?

No it did not try to spray me but, other than to take it's photo, I did nothing to agitate it.

I'm happy to get to genus but if there is a detail that might get it to species, I could check my other shots.

but species usually can't be discerned from typical BugGuide images.
