Cecropia Moth. - Hyalophora cecropia - female

Cecropia Moth. - Hyalophora cecropia - Female
Pickens County, Georgia, USA
May 3, 2009
Size: wingspan approx. 15.5 cm.
Found at porch light (my lucky night, I guess).
Brought it in for photo shoot and released back outside, where she proceeded to lay 13 eggs by back door.
She laid 6 eggs in one spot and 7 a couple of feet away.
She hung out by the porch light for a few hours and then disappeared, perhaps to lay more eggs elsewhere.

Beautiful moth Aubrey. I've been looking for one of those for quite some time now. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Jerry!
I felt very lucky to come across this one. This is one of those moths that I always wanted to find, but didn't expect to.
