Keyhole wasp on flower stem - Trypoxylon

Keyhole wasp on flower stem - Trypoxylon
Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, USA
May 5, 2009
Size: 12-15 mm
This wasp was sipping a sticky exudate from one of those ornamental "bird of paradise" shrubs that are so common in Tucson. Wasps of many different families enjoy the secretions, while bees visit the actual flowers.
