Webb Canyon, ~2000 ft. altitude, Los Angeles County, California, USA
May 5, 2009
Size: ~8.5 mm
Rescued from the pool yesterday -- fortunately in good condition! I was quite taken by the lovely blue and gold coloration of this attractive fly. After looking through all of the syrphid species submitted from California, I am fairly certain that this must be
Ocyptamus diversifasciatus. However, there is only the single image submitted by Hartmut Wisch to compare to, so I would love to have confirmation.
Mixed oak & chaparral habitat.
