Early Luna - Actias luna - female

Early Luna - Actias luna - Female
VCU Rice Center, Charles City County, Virginia, USA
May 8, 2009
A Luna moth just after emerging from the cocoon. It started on the ground, but it was moved onto this branch since people were walking around. At a forest edge.

nice photos
Very nice photo series. Watching a luna inflate its wings is an amazing experience, gets me every time.

By the way, this is a female.

Thanks!
Thanks Ryan, it was a very neat thing to watch- and I was wondering what gender the moth was too.
