Snout Beetle - Otiorhynchus sulcatus

Snout Beetle - Otiorhynchus sulcatus
Thompson Falls, Sanders County, Montana, USA
July 25, 2005
Size: about 10 mm

Root weevil.
One of the flightless weevils in the genus Otiorhynchus, probably O. sulcatus, the "black vine weevil."

O. sulcatus
Based on the illustrations in the French web site, and distributions in "Checklist of the Beetles of North and Central America and the West Indies" the only species this can be is O. sulcatus. This should be moved to that guide page.
