unknown beetle - Melanophthalma

unknown beetle - Melanophthalma
Baiting Hollow, Suffolk County, New York, USA
May 2, 2009
Size: 1- 2 mm

Moved from Corticariinae.

I'm going to edit my previous comment, as I am sure that this is in the genus Melanophthalma the pronotum shape really gives it away- the sides are angulate and there are diagonal impressions at the hind corners of the disk.

A friend just helped me identify one of these about a week ago! The family is Latridiidae, and I suspect the subfamily is Corticariinae. Nice photography of something about the size of a head of a pin.
