I'm no expert, but I think I can finally point someone in the right direction! Try Forage or Clover Looper. At that point even the experts engage in much discussion!

 
Thanks for the lead
The genus Caenurgina sure appears right. Of the two eastern species, mine appears to be C. crassiuscula because the two dark bands on the forewing nearly touch each other at midline and the basal one touches the inner margin. However, I am not sure that I am interpreting this description correctly, so will move to genus to await expert opinion.
