Freshwater larval stage found in Bishop's Bog - Tabanus
Portage, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, USA
May 15, 2009
Size: 2.3"
Was swimming on surface of water in the bog. Did not appear like a terrestrial larvae. Had inner, moving filaments visible through exo, like the Rat-tailed Maggot.

Horse Fly Larva
This is a larva of a horse fly (Tabanus). It is probably a specimen of Tabanus stygius Say
