Spider Wasp - Episyron quinquenotatus

Spider Wasp - Episyron quinquenotatus
Mill Lake, east of Killarney, Manitoulin District, Ontario, Canada
June 29, 2005
Size: ~10mm
A spider wasp, I believe. It was dragging a large orb weaver (I think) along, but I couldn't get a clear shot of it with its prey.

Moved
Moved from Episyron.

Episyron quinquenotatus quinquenotatus
female, of course.

Episyron sp.
Very nice image of a spider wasp in the genus Episyron. The white spots are pretty distinctive for the genus, though the number of spots varies from specimen to specimen even within a single species. Some are totally black, in fact. These wasps can be quite common in sandy habitats. They prey on orb weavers.

Thanks
Thanks for the ID, Eric. I've moved my photo and Tom's (1) into a guide page for the genus.
