Millipede in Alabama (with mites?) - Apheloria

Millipede in Alabama (with mites?) - Apheloria
Florence, Lauderdale County, Alabama, USA
April 15, 2009
I'm uploading this photo because of the little mites crawling on its back.

from Rowland M. Shelley:
"[This] is what I think may be a new species of Apheloria (Polydesmida: Xystodesmidae); I've seen and examined a few of these myself, and the yellow banded color pattern should not be on anything in that area."

Moved from Millipedes.

Xystodesmidae?
The millipede looks like Xystodesmidae. Mites are too small to ID, probably.
