Documentation and Art
Awesome image: technically, scientifically and artistically well done. I'm about to post a similar image (probably a different species) and would appreciate the benefit of your technical (lens/camera data) and how you know it is a female.

Thanks
You can tell it's a female because the palps are not enlarged. See this site for drawings of male and female palps.

As for the technical data....I'll get back to you on that.

Delayed Thanks
Two years ago I did not realize I should return to an image to view a reply to a comment (duh). Meanwhile, I totally forgot. Now, belatedly, thanks!

Thanks Again
Ditto. Before I had a clue what I was doing, I shot my similar image (# 32567), from ~18 inches using a 100-400mm lens (set at 400), 1.4x teleconverter and a set of extension tubes. Since then, I've acquired a 100mm macro lens and look forward to reshooting this subject. Meanwhile, I'm still using the original Digital Rebel and see no reason to change (yet); of course, there are bells & whistles I might like to have. Much as I love using natural light, I believe I am learning to use flash effectively. Thanks again for giving so generously of your time and expertise.
