I actually found a caterpillar, and while I was overly amazed by it, my friend Eric actually found this guy in the same place.

We actually let him go
He was very annoyed with us, so we released him. I don't think he would have made a very good pet either.
But, he was pretty enough to turn into a piece of jewelry.

The other photos
of the same individual beetle (photographed by Eric Eaton) have been moved to Knowltonia sp.
Where should this one be? It can't be two spp at once?

 
My mistake, I missed the copp
My mistake, I missed the coppery margins of the elytra. Otherwise color and pattern are very similar. Knowltonia used to be in the genus Chrysobothris, and the two genera are closely allied.
