Megachilidae in California - Trachusa perdita - Male
Webb Canyon, ~2000 ft. altitude, Los Angeles County, California, USA
May 19, 2009
A beautiful pool rescue from yesterday which was in quite good condition. (In fact, please excuse the blob of water remaining on its back, as it was healthy enough to fly away long before it finished drying off.) I'm afraid I may look foolish by hazarding a guess... my knowledge of bees seems to still be quite rudimentary. Eucerine? Anthophorine, perhaps? Any help with identification and/or tips for distinguishing differences between different groups of bees is greatly appreciated!

Mixed oak & chaparral habitat.
