Beautiful spider!
I'm thinking Hogna sp. (Lycosidae)? - given the size, and the stripe down the middle of the carapace and between the eyes.

Nice.

size correction
Size should have been 2 to 3 inch. It is the biggest I've seen outside of a zoo, and had my wife calling Orkin to enquire if they had any B-52 bombers.

Please see here on correct measurement taking. Keep in mind that everyone realizes that these measurements are mostly estimates but we try to get as close as we can.

And by the way, welcome to BugGuide!!

The last time I saw a large spider, I was able to drop a quarter next to it to give it some scale. I'll post that one later! This spider was clearly bigger than the last one though.
