Female begins a new tunnel - Xylocopa virginica - Female
Perry County, Pennsylvania, USA
May 23, 2009
A female is beginning get another tunnel in the pillars of my shed. They are devastating to the shed, and have been nesting in it as long as we have lived here.

If you go inside the shed, you can actually hear all of the bees chewing wood inside the pillars.
